Electrolysis is like other minor medical treatments and requires you take some basic precautions after your procedure. Here at Mt. Pearl Electrolysis, we take time to educate our clients about proper electrolysis aftercare to ensure each treatment is effective for permanent hair removal.
Following your electrolysis treatment, it is important that you do not scratch or touch the area treated. This will ensure that bacteria is not transferred to the area and minimize the chance of infection or reaction following your electrolysis. For approximately four (4) days after treatement at bedtime, bathe the area in warm water and epsom salt and apply calamine lotion to the treated area.
We also recommend that you do not wash or wear makeup on the area for at least 24 hours to avoid further irritation and reduce the possibility of infection. You should also avoid the use of perfumes or alcohol based prducts. These tend to dry the skin which can lead to more irritation and increase the risk of infection.
With electrolysis, there is minor discomfort during the procedure. Afterwards, some patients find relief in using an antibiotic cream such as Polysporin to the treated area. Others find relief by keeping the area clean by gently applying an antiseptic a few times throughout the day. It is important however, that you do avoid the use of any heavy creams or rubbing the affected area vigorously for up 48 hours after your treatment. Another important thing not to do following your electrolysis treatment is you should avoid any manual exfoliating for up to 48 hours after your treatment. Here at Mt. Pearl Electrolysis we also recommend that you avoid submerging the treatment area in hot tubs and to avoid swimming for up to 48 hours following your electrolysis treatment.
It is also recommended that you should avoid tanning and any direct sun exposure following your electrolysis treatment. If you do have to go outside, it is recommended that you use sunscreen when appropriate. This will lessen both the irritation to the affected area and minimize the affects of direct sun exposure on the electrolysis treatment area.
Finally, it is important that you report any skin reactions to the electrolysis on returning for your next visit. Should you have any concerns, please feel free to give Mt. Pearl Electrolysis a call anytime with your questions or drop us a note through our Contact form. We will be more than happy to help you.
